UBS Group AG was formed on 29 June 1998 through the merger of Union Bank of Switzerland and Swiss Bank Corporation, although its predecessor institutions trace their roots to the 19th century. The group is headquartered in Zurich and Basel, Switzerland.

UBS operates across Global Wealth Management, Personal & Corporate Banking, Asset Management and the Investment Bank. Its wealth-management franchise is the firm’s defining business, while the investment bank provides advisory, capital-markets, research, sales and trading services to corporate, institutional and wealth-management clients.

The acquisition of Credit Suisse on 12 June 2023 increased UBS’s scale and added integration work across the group. For students, UBS is particularly relevant for careers in wealth management, investment banking, asset management, Swiss universal banking and the technology, risk and control functions supporting a 100,000-plus employee organization.
