Founded in 1954 as a one-person civil-engineering practice in Edmonton, Alberta, Stantec has grown into a publicly listed multidisciplinary consultancy. Its work spans engineering, architecture, environmental consulting, planning, project management, and advisory services.

Stantec serves public- and private-sector clients across buildings, community development, energy, environment, transportation, water, and program and construction management. Its strongest areas include water infrastructure, environmental and climate resilience work, transportation, and integrated architecture-engineering delivery.

Sustainability is embedded in its technical offering rather than treated as a separate niche: teams work on net-zero and high-performance buildings, climate-risk assessment, resilient infrastructure, asset management, and nature-based solutions. Growth has also been driven by acquisitions, including the addition of Page’s architecture and engineering teams in 2025.
