Splunk

Founded in 2003 and headquartered in San Francisco, Splunk built its business around searching, analyzing, and visualizing machine-generated data. It became a public company in 2012 before Cisco completed its acquisition in March 2024 for approximately $28 billion in equity value.

Splunk provides cloud and enterprise software for security operations, IT operations, observability, and AI-enabled analytics. Its products ingest and correlate logs, metrics, traces, network data, and other telemetry to help organizations detect threats, investigate incidents, troubleshoot applications, and monitor digital services.

The firm is especially strong where cybersecurity and software reliability overlap: Splunk Enterprise Security supports threat detection and response, while Splunk Observability provides full-stack monitoring across hybrid and cloud environments. As part of Cisco, Splunk is being combined with Cisco’s networking and security portfolio around broader digital resilience use cases.
