Signal Ventures

Signal Ventures is the investment and venture-building arm of The Signal Group, a shipping and technology business founded by Ioannis Martinos in 2014. Signal Ventures was formally launched in February 2021 to support innovation across maritime and trade technology.

The firm invests in and incubates startups serving shipping, supply chains, commodities, and related sectors. Its focus includes B2B SaaS, advanced analytics, optimization, and artificial intelligence, with portfolio examples spanning port-cost management, crew logistics, fuel procurement, weather data, and oil-market analytics.

Its distinctive strength is the combination of venture capital with operating support from a shipping and technology platform: founders can access maritime data, including vessel movements, emissions, port, and weather information, alongside mentoring, company-building assistance, and administrative support. As of December 2024, Signal reported 18 direct ventures across 10 countries and 24 additional indirect investments.
