Shell plc

Shell traces its corporate formation to the 1907 merger of Shell Transport and Trading Company with Royal Dutch. Its registered office and headquarters are in London, where the group remains incorporated in England and Wales.

Today, Shell plc is a global energy and petrochemicals group. Its activities span oil and gas exploration and production, LNG, energy trading, refining, chemicals, fuels, mobility and electric-vehicle charging. It operates in more than 70 countries and employed around 85,000 people at December 31, 2025.

Shell is especially strong in integrated gas and LNG: it sold 73 million tonnes of LNG across 30 countries in 2025 and says its LNG business met around 17% of global demand. Its wider operating scale included 2.8 million barrels of oil and gas production available for sale per day, 29 million customers at Shell-branded mobility sites each day and 88,000 public EV charge points.
