About Severn Trent Plc
Severn Trent Water Authority was established in 1974 through the merger of the Severn and Trent river authorities; Severn Trent Plc was created and listed after the water-industry privatisation in 1989. The group is headquartered in Coventry and operates regulated water and wastewater businesses in England and Wales, alongside non-regulated infrastructure, renewable-energy and food-waste activities.
Its core business supplies drinking water, collects and treats wastewater, and manages extensive networks of pipes, sewers, reservoirs and treatment works. Severn Trent Water serves the Midlands, while Hafren Dyfrdwy operates in parts of Wales; the group provides water to more than nine million people across its region.
For students, the firm is particularly relevant for careers combining regulated infrastructure, capital investment, engineering, operations, finance, strategy, commercial work and environmental management. Its recent scale is reflected in £1.954 billion of capital investment and £2.831 billion of group turnover in the year ended 31 March 2026.
