SEB traces its history to 1856, when André Oscar Wallenberg founded the bank in Stockholm. The group today operates through Corporate & Investment Banking, Business & Retail Banking, Wealth & Asset Management, and Baltic divisions.

SEB provides commercial banking, investment banking, wealth management, asset management, and related financial services. Its corporate franchise is particularly important: the bank serves large companies and financial institutions across the Nordic region, Germany, the United Kingdom, and other international markets.

The firm is especially strong in relationship-led corporate and investment banking, with a substantial asset-management business and an established sustainability-finance platform. In 2025, SEB reported SEK 95 billion of eligible green assets in its green-bond portfolio.
