Scope Group

Scope was founded in Berlin in 2002 by Florian Schoeller as a specialist in alternative-investment analysis. It expanded into credit ratings in 2012, positioning itself as a European alternative to the dominant US rating agencies.

Today, Scope Group provides credit ratings, fund and asset-manager research, ESG analysis and related risk-analysis solutions. Its ratings cover areas including financial institutions, corporates, sovereigns, project finance and structured finance.

Scope’s strongest differentiator is its European institutional position: Scope Ratings is registered with ESMA and is the only European credit-rating agency accepted in the ECB’s Eurosystem Credit Assessment Framework. The firm also highlights its mandates from the EU, European Investment Bank and European Stability Mechanism.
