Rothschild & Co traces its business records to Mayer Amschel Rothschild in 1769; the modern group was formed when its French and UK businesses merged in 2003. The family-controlled firm remains in its seventh generation of family leadership and delisted from Euronext Paris in 2023.

Its three main businesses are Global Advisory, Wealth and Asset Management, and Five Arrows, its alternative-assets arm. Global Advisory covers M&A, strategic advice, financing, restructuring, capital markets and specialist areas such as sovereign and investor advisory; Wealth Management serves individuals and families, while Asset Management serves institutional and intermediary clients.

The firm's clearest strength is European and cross-border M&A. In Mergermarket's 2025 rankings, Rothschild & Co placed fifth in Europe by announced deal value, advising on 345 transactions worth $220.2 billion, and seventh globally by deal count. Its advisory network comprises about 1,600 professionals across 60 locations in 48 countries.
