Point72 Asset Management was formally founded by Steven A. Cohen on April 7, 2014, after SAC Capital transitioned into a family office. Its investment history traces back to SAC Capital, founded by Cohen in 1992, and the firm remains headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut.

Point72 runs a multi-strategy platform spanning fundamental equities, Cubist Systematic Strategies, global macro, private credit, and venture capital. Fundamental equities is its largest strategy by headcount and asset allocation, with sector-aligned teams given autonomy within a multi-manager structure; Cubist develops computer-driven strategies across liquid asset classes.

For students and early-career applicants, Point72 is especially notable for the Point72 Academy, which combines classroom instruction, team rotations, mentorship, and investment research training. Point72 Ventures adds a separate multi-stage venture platform focused on technology and other specialist sectors.
