Founded in Newport Beach in 1971 as the money-management arm of Pacific Mutual Life Insurance Company, PIMCO began as a fixed-income specialist and helped pioneer the total-return approach to bond investing. It is now a majority-owned indirect subsidiary of Allianz SE.
