About NFU Mutual
NFU Mutual was founded in 1910 as the Midland Farmers’ Mutual Insurance Society by seven Warwickshire farmers. It began by serving farming communities and has since expanded into a UK-wide mutual insurer owned by and run for its members, rather than external shareholders.
The business provides general insurance for farming, commercial and personal customers, alongside pensions, investments, life cover and financial advice. Its distribution model is built around local tied agents and relationship-based service, with specialist strength in farming and rural risks as well as broader personal and commercial insurance.
NFU Mutual’s 2025 results show a sizeable insurance and investment business: £22.8bn of funds under management, £729m group profit and 4,842 employees at year end. Its 94.1% general-insurance policy persistency rate also reflects the importance of customer retention and member relationships to its model.
