About MBDA
MBDA was created in December 2001 when Airbus, BAE Systems and Leonardo consolidated their missile activities into a European complex-weapons group. Its ownership remains split between those three shareholders: 37.5% each for Airbus and BAE Systems, and 25% for Leonardo.
The company designs, develops, manufactures and supports missiles and integrated weapon systems for land, naval and air forces. Its portfolio spans deep strike, tactical strike, battlefield weapons, air dominance, area protection and force protection, with products such as Meteor, Brimstone, Storm Shadow/SCALP, Aster, CAMM and Exocet.
MBDA is especially strong in European multinational defence programmes and sovereign capabilities. Its systems are used by more than 90 armed forces, and its 2024 reporting highlights 50-plus missile-system programmes in operational service, 30 more in development, and 10 R&D centres across six countries.
