About Marshall Wace
Founded in 1997 by Paul Marshall and Ian Wace, Marshall Wace is a London-based alternative investment manager with a global operating footprint. KKR formed a strategic partnership with the firm in 2015 and holds a 39.9% ownership interest.
The firm manages quantitative, systematic and fundamental strategies, specialising predominantly in global long/short equity. Its best-known innovation is MW TOPS, launched in 2002 as an alpha-capture application that processes trading ideas from a broad network of market contributors; this is more precise than describing TOPS simply as a network of external managers.
Marshall Wace is especially relevant for students interested in the intersection of investing, data and technology. Its current early-career routes include quantitative research, quant development, technology, business operations and fundamental investing.
