About Marks & Spencer

Marks & Spencer began in 1884 when Michael Marks opened a market stall in Leeds; the partnership with Tom Spencer followed in 1894. It became a public company in 1926 and has built its identity around own-brand products and a distinctive British retail heritage.

Today, M&S operates across Food and Fashion, Home & Beauty, supported by stores, digital channels, international partnerships and the Ocado Retail joint venture. Its recent strategy has focused on renewing stores, modernising supply chains, expanding online capability and improving product value and availability.
