About MarketAxess
Founded by Rick McVey in 2000, MarketAxess built an electronic alternative to telephone-based bond trading. It connects institutional investors, broker-dealers and other liquidity providers across global fixed-income markets and is headquartered in New York.
The platform supports trading in corporate bonds, municipal bonds, emerging-market debt, Eurobonds, U.S. Treasuries and other fixed-income instruments. Beyond execution, MarketAxess provides automated and algorithmic trading, pre-trade data and analytics, index products, transaction-cost insights and post-trade services.
Its distinctive strength is Open Trading, an all-to-all marketplace that allows qualified investors, dealers and alternative liquidity providers to interact. The firm is also expanding in portfolio trading, block trading, municipal bonds and AI-supported execution and analytics. On July 30, 2026, Intercontinental Exchange agreed to acquire MarketAxess; the transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to approvals.
