Kroll was established in New York in 1972 as an investigations and risk firm. Duff & Phelps acquired Kroll in 2018, combining Kroll’s investigations, compliance, security and cyber capabilities with Duff & Phelps’ valuation and financial advisory platform; the combined firm adopted the Kroll name in 2020.

Today, Kroll advises companies, investors, governments, law firms and financial institutions across valuation, transactions, restructuring, disputes, tax, compliance, investigations, cyber risk and other risk-management needs. Its work often involves contested situations, regulatory scrutiny, fraud allegations, litigation or material capital at risk.

Kroll is especially strong in independent valuation and transaction opinions, forensic investigations and cross-border risk matters. Its Opinions practice ranked No. 1 globally by number of fairness opinions in 2024, while the broader firm reports more than 6,500 professionals across more than 30 countries and territories.
