About In-Q-Tel (IQT)
Founded in 1999 at the CIA’s initiative, In-Q-Tel is an independent U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit—not a government entity or part of the CIA. It was created to bridge the technology needs of intelligence and defense agencies with innovation from the private sector.
IQT identifies, evaluates, and invests in commercial technology companies, then helps adapt and transfer their products for government use. Its focus spans AI, cybersecurity, biotechnology, space systems, autonomous systems, energy, and microelectronics.
The firm is especially strong at translating early-stage technology into public-sector capabilities: it combines venture investing with technical diligence, government relationships, applied research, and support for navigating government procurement and adoption.
