Glencore plc
A global commodities producer and physical trader, best known for its integrated metals, minerals, coal and energy businesses.
Highlights
About Glencore plc
Glencore’s business began in 1974 as Marc Rich + Co AG, initially marketing metals, minerals and crude oil. It later expanded into industrial assets through acquisitions in mining, smelting, refining and processing, and became publicly listed in 2011. Its global headquarters are in Baar, Switzerland.
The company combines industrial production with physical commodity marketing. It sources commodities from its own assets and third parties, then transports, stores, processes, blends and sells them to industrial customers. Its portfolio includes copper, cobalt, nickel, zinc, lead, ferroalloys, aluminium, iron ore, coal, crude oil, oil products and natural gas.
Glencore is especially strong where trading expertise and asset ownership interact: managing supply chains, arbitrage, logistics and customer relationships while operating mines, smelters, refineries and processing facilities. Its strategic focus is increasingly centred on copper and other commodities linked to electrification, while it remains a major coal and energy-market participant.
