Founded in 1899 as Retail Credit Company, Equifax is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. It provides data, analytics and technology to financial institutions, employers, companies and government agencies, using information such as credit, employment, income and other consumer and business records.

Equifax operates through three reporting segments: Workforce Solutions, U.S. Information Solutions and International. Its strongest areas are workforce and income verification and credit-related decisioning: Workforce Solutions was the largest segment by 2025 revenue, while The Work Number database ended 2025 with 209 million active records and 813 million total records.
