Enstar Group Limited was formed in Bermuda in 2001, with roots in Castlewood Limited, a run-off business launched in Bermuda in 1993. In July 2025, Enstar was acquired by a consortium led by Sixth Street and became privately held.

Enstar provides retrospective insurance and reinsurance solutions, taking on discontinued or legacy portfolios so insurers and other counterparties can reduce risk, release capital and simplify their balance sheets. Its work combines transaction structuring, underwriting, actuarial analysis, claims management, investment management and risk oversight.

The firm is especially strong in complex legacy liabilities: it reports more than 130 completed transactions, $12.3 billion of insurance liabilities and $19.9 billion of assets as at June 30, 2026. Its main career areas include actuarial, claims, finance, investment management, mergers and acquisitions and risk.
