Dunelm began in 1979, when Bill and Jean Adderley started selling curtains and bedding from a stall at Leicester Market. It later expanded into high-street and out-of-town stores, with the first high-street shop opening in Leicester in 1984.

Today, Dunelm is a specialist homewares and furniture retailer selling through stores and dunelm.com. Its range spans textiles, furniture, kitchenware, lighting, decoration, outdoor products and DIY, with more than 100,000 products and services including Made-to-Measure window treatments.

Its main strengths are scale in the UK homewares market, a broad own-brand proposition, and an integrated store-and-digital model. Digital channels contribute more than 40% of sales, while the business is continuing to expand its store network and invest in technology, including its mobile app and AI shopping tools.
