Convex Insurance

Convex was co-founded in 2019 by Stephen Catlin and Paul Brand, with $1.7 billion of initial committed capital. It built on the founders’ experience at Catlin and launched to underwrite complex specialty insurance and reinsurance risks.

The group operates across Bermuda, London, Guernsey and Luxembourg, with products spanning property, casualty and specialty business. Its model is centered on specialist underwriting, broker relationships and a relatively new, legacy-free balance sheet rather than mass-market insurance.

Convex has scaled quickly: 2024 gross written premium reached $5.166 billion, while its 87.6% combined ratio and $381 million underwriting result showed profitable growth. For students, the firm is most relevant for roles in underwriting, actuarial, data, analytics, claims, risk and insurance operations; its careers programme explicitly offers internship and graduate routes.
