Compare the Market launched in 2006 and is part of the BGL Group. BGL is majority-owned by BHL (UK) Holdings Limited, with minority ownership by CPP Investments.

The platform lets households compare insurance, utilities, broadband, mobile packages and financial products including mortgages, credit cards, loans, savings and current accounts. It is FCA-regulated for its insurance and financial-products activities and earns revenue through its provider partnerships.

Its main strengths are breadth and consumer reach: Compare the Market says it generates more than 38 million quotes a year, covers 1,296 products from 662 providers, and uses technology and AI to support comparison journeys. Its Meerkat Movies rewards programme and long-running meerkat brand have also become important parts of its consumer proposition.
