About Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CommBank)
Founded by an Act of the Australian Parliament in 1911, Commonwealth Bank began operations in 1912 and was privatised between 1991 and 1996. It is now a listed Australian bank serving retail, business, corporate, institutional and government clients.
CommBank’s businesses include retail banking, home lending, business banking, wealth and private banking, payments, equities trading through CommSec, and Institutional Banking & Markets. Its strongest differentiator is the combination of domestic scale and technology investment: the bank has built a large digital customer base and consistently ranks first in its own reported Australian mobile-banking app and online-banking NPS measures.
For students, the firm offers exposure beyond branch banking, including finance, risk, data and analytics, technology, artificial intelligence, cyber security, business banking and institutional markets. Its graduate program generally takes more than 300 graduates annually, while its summer internship program generally takes more than 100 interns.
