Founded by Kenneth C. Griffin in 1990, Citadel began with a convertible-arbitrage strategy and is now headquartered in Miami. It is a multi-strategy alternative investment manager serving institutional investors across global markets.

Citadel invests across equities, credit and convertibles, commodities, fixed income and macro, and global quantitative strategies. Its model combines fundamental research, quantitative analysis, proprietary technology and portfolio-level risk management.

Citadel Securities is a separate and distinct affiliated firm focused on market making rather than investment management. That business is relevant to applicants because Citadel's recruiting platform covers roles at both firms, including investing, quantitative research, engineering and business operations.
