About Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC)
CIBC traces its history to the opening of the Canadian Bank of Commerce in Toronto on May 15, 1867; the modern bank was formed in 1961 through the amalgamation of the Canadian Bank of Commerce and Imperial Bank of Canada. Its registered and head office is in Toronto.
CIBC operates through four main businesses: Canadian Personal and Business Banking, Canadian Commercial Banking and Wealth Management, U.S. Commercial Banking and Wealth Management, and Capital Markets. For students, that creates routes into retail and commercial banking, private wealth, investment banking, global markets, transaction banking, technology and risk.
Its clearest strengths are its scale in Canadian banking, its growing U.S. commercial and wealth platform, and a sizable Capital Markets business. In fiscal 2025, Capital Markets generated C$6.148 billion in revenue, while the bank reported C$29.133 billion of total revenue and 49,824 full-time-equivalent employees.
