Founded in Los Angeles in 1931 by Jonathan Bell Lovelace, Capital Group is a privately held investment manager whose headquarters remain in Los Angeles. The firm serves individual, wealth-management and institutional clients through equity, fixed-income and multi-asset strategies, including the American Funds range.

Capital Group is especially known for The Capital System: multiple portfolio managers independently make investment decisions within a portfolio while sharing research and perspectives. This approach, combined with fundamental research and long investment horizons, is intended to reduce reliance on any single manager or style.

The firm reported more than $3.6 trillion in assets under management as of June 30, 2026, and has particular scale in global equities, fixed income, retirement solutions and U.S. mutual funds.
