About BMO Capital Markets
BMO Capital Markets is the investment and corporate banking and markets business of Bank of Montreal, which was established in 1817 as Canada’s first bank. The BMO Capital Markets name was introduced in 2006 after BMO combined its Canadian, U.S. and international wholesale-banking capabilities.
The firm provides investment and corporate banking, treasury management, research, advisory services, and sales and trading to corporate, institutional and government clients. Its platform spans approximately 2,700 professionals in more than 30 locations, including 20 offices in North America.
BMO is particularly strong in Canadian and North American capital markets, commodities trading, and metals and mining. Its 2025 results highlighted strong commodities-trading performance, while Global Finance has named it the Best Metals & Mining Investment Bank for 2010–2026.
