BAE Systems

BAE Systems was formed on 30 November 1999 through the merger of British Aerospace and Marconi Electronic Systems. Its registered office is in London, while its operations extend across major defence markets including the UK, US, Europe, Saudi Arabia and Australia.

The group develops, engineers, manufactures and supports military platforms, electronic systems, cybersecurity and intelligence solutions. Its work covers air, land, maritime, space and cyber domains, with particularly substantial capabilities in naval shipbuilding, combat aircraft, electronic warfare, mission systems and national-security technology.

For students, BAE Systems is best understood as a large engineering and programme-delivery organisation rather than a pure technology company: much of its work involves long-term government contracts, regulated supply chains and complex multinational defence programmes.
