Highlights
About AXA
AXA’s origins trace to Ancienne Mutuelle de Rouen, a small mutual insurer created in Normandy in the early 19th century. The AXA name was launched in 1985, after a period of consolidation and acquisitions under Claude Bébéar. The Group’s global headquarters are in Paris.
Today, AXA focuses primarily on property-casualty insurance and life and health protection for individuals, businesses and institutions. Its offering covers areas including personal property, liability, commercial insurance, reinsurance, life insurance, savings, retirement and health protection.
AXA is especially strong in commercial and specialty insurance through AXA XL, as well as in large-scale personal and employee protection businesses. The company completed the sale of AXA Investment Managers to BNP Paribas on July 1, 2025, so current descriptions should treat AXA primarily as an insurer rather than as an integrated insurance-and-asset-management group.
