AstraZeneca was formed in 1999 through the merger of Sweden’s Astra AB and the UK’s Zeneca Group PLC. Its registered office is in Cambridge, UK, on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

The company discovers, develops, manufactures and commercialises prescription medicines across oncology, cardiovascular, renal and metabolism, respiratory and immunology, infectious disease and rare disease. Its strongest areas are science-led drug development, oncology and biologics, supported by a broad late-stage pipeline and global commercial operations.

In 2025, AstraZeneca reported $58.7 billion in total revenue and 96,100 employees. Its pipeline included 183 projects, including 116 new molecular entities or major lifecycle-management projects in Phase II or Phase III.
