AIG traces its roots to 1919, when Cornelius Vander Starr established American Asiatic Underwriters in Shanghai. The company is now headquartered in New York and operates as a global insurance organization serving businesses and individuals in more than 200 countries and jurisdictions.

AIG’s current operating business is centered on General Insurance, covering commercial property, casualty, financial lines, marine, energy, aviation, political risk, trade credit, accident and health, and selected personal lines. Its former life and retirement business began trading separately as Corebridge Financial in 2022, so the third-party blurb is outdated in presenting life and retirement as a core AIG operating division.
